REVIEW: Three Witches, Shelley Theatre, Boscombe

 - Bournemouth Echo

"THIS is the UK premiere of this terrifically entertaining show devised and directed by local boy Earl Carpenter, Broadway and West End star of Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and many more world-wide musical theatre shows.

This brand new production features three wonderful performers: Tiffany Graves (The Witches of Eastwick, Chicago, and Sunset Boulevard), Jacqueline Hughes (Wicked!, Mary Poppins, and Cinderella), and Annette Yeo (Mamma Mia!, Love Never Dies, and City of Angels).

In this stylish production of Three Witches, the three-part female harmony vocals are rich, powerful and punchy, particularly on the brilliant Make Him Mine from The Witches of Eastwick, the stunning You Don’t Own Me from The First Wives Club, and the show-stopping standing ovation on For Good from the musical Wicked.

On the intimate, quirky, and atmospheric Shelley stage, other highlights included Jacqueline Hughes’ smooth and jazzy Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered from Pal Joey, Annette Yeo’s powerfully moving The Winner Takes It All from the glorious Mamma Mia!, and the terrific piano accompaniment on Bewitched from immaculate Musical Director Lilly Howard.

Just occasionally, the sound balance (without microphones) was a bit iffy, and compere Kieran Brown’s jokes very corny with pre-recorded laughter.

This completely sold-out show will have an additional performance next Sunday November 5 at 4pm at The Shelley Theatre. Don’t miss it, particularly if you’ve not experienced this magnificent historical (and reputed to be haunted) ex-Shelley family theatre."

I never thought ‘Three Phantoms’ would achieve the international status and success it has enjoyed. Fingers crossed that ‘Three Witches’ will fly in the same way?”
